The FAILURE That Is DISNEY STAR WARS

Don’t forget to Like, Subscribe and Comment

Ever since Disney bought Star Wars from George Lucas back in 2012 the franchise has been universally despised by die hard Star Wars Fans while loved by people who don’t know anything about the franchise and just went along for the ride. People online have referred to the directors, J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson of the Sequels as Jar Jar Abrams (a play on the name of Jar Jar Binks) and Ruin Johnson. It wasn’t just the directors that were blamed, Kathleen Kennedy – CEO of Lucasfilm, is also responsible for running the franchise into the ground and has been given the nickname of Darth Kennedy as a result of her tarnishing George Lucas’ beloved franchise.

Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 didn’t share any moments together as a group like in the original movies and neither did the new characters of the Sequels. The Last Jedi ruined the whole point of space battles by using hyperspace as a weapon to destroy enemy ships and in Rise Of Skywalker, they said the odds of that were a “one in a million shot” which is what Han Solo said to Luke after he blew up the First Death Star in Ep4: A New Hope and pulling off something like that, one has to have a connection to The Force. The person who used hyperspace as a weapon against the First Order in Last Jedi wasn’t even Force Sensitive, just an average person.

Luke gave up on the Jedi and the Galaxy when his nephew Ben Solo turned evil becoming Kylo Ren and resulted in Han and Leia’s marriage falling apart, Han later gets killed by his son, Lando Calrissian didn’t show up until the Rise Of Skywalker and got very little screen time and Palpatine/Sidious was brought back into the fold because Last Jedi Director Rian Johnson wasted two of the main villains of the new trilogy, Supreme Leader Snoke and Captain Phasma.

People have blasted Disney for scrapping the Expanded Universe/Legends Continuity and denying its existence especially when Kathleen Kennedy herself said there was no source material to use.

Every one of these movies is a particularly hard nut to crack,” said Kennedy. “There’s no source material. We don’t have comic books. we don’t have 800-page novels, we don’t have anything other than passionate storytellers who get together and talk about what the next iteration might be. We go through a really normal development process that everybody else does.”

Despite scrapping nearly forty years worth of Star Wars stories (EU/Legends Continuity started back in 1977 and was scrapped in 2014), Disney is cherry picking elements, characters, planets, aliens and story arcs from EU like how Palpatine came back in The Rise of Skywalker and had a massive fleet of world destroying ships and Grand Admiral Thrawn who got his own book trilogy in the Expanded Universe/Legends Continuity, was shoehorned into being a main villain in Rebels and the Ahsoka show which will kick off Disney’s very loosely based version of the Grand Admiral Thrawn novel Heir to the Empire written by Timothy Zahn who wrote the Thrawn Trilogy books as we hear Ahsoka say “Thrawn is heir to the Empire”.

If you’re someone like me that’s super knowledgeable about the Star Wars Expanded Universe/Legends Continuity, then you’d know that Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO are absolute LEGENDS! (pun intended), because they continue to save the galaxy from a plethora of threats and Luke never gave up hope no matter how bad things got, where in the Sequels he did give up hope after his nephew turned evil and became a bitter old hermit.

The Yuuzhan Vong waging war against the Star Wars Galaxy.
Source: (https://star-wars-canon-extended.fandom.com/wiki/Yuuzhan_Vong)

The galaxy would later face a terrifying new threat in the form of the Yuuzhan Vong, a genocidal xenophobic alien race from another galaxy that have been travelling through the void of space for millennia. After defeating genocidal robots in their home galaxy, the Vong became incredibly violent to the point they committed galactic genocide and enslaved other species to fight under them. The Vong also lost their symbiotic relationship to their home-world and and lost any connection to The Force and were unaffected by most force powers and couldn’t be sensed by the Jedi. The Yuuzhan Vong War resulted in the deaths of 365 trillion across the galaxy as well as conquering the Republic world Coruscant, making it one of the worst wars the galaxy had ever seen. The Vong were also responsible for the demise of Han Solo’s best friend Chewbacca and Anakin Solo died during a mission, where he sacrificed himself. The war with the Yuuzhan Vong came to an end when Luke and his nephew Jacen Solo took out the two figureheads, Shimrra Jamaane & Onimi that were leading the Vong.

Star Wars Legends: Legacy Of The Force

Source: (https://www.deviantart.com/redledbetter/art/Star-Wars-Legacy-of-the-Force-90207568)

A family torn apart, Han and Leia would suffer great loss after their youngest child and second son, Anakin Solo died a hero during the Yuuzhan Vong War and their oldest son, Jacen, would end up becoming the mighty Sith Lord Darth Caedus due to the machinations of Sith Lady Lumiya, who secretly served under Palpatine/Sidious prior to his demise. Jacen secretly fathered a daughter with a princess before his fall and had visions of the future of a Dark Man (Darth Krayt) sitting on a throne destroying the galaxy with his his daughter Allana Solo by his side, which was the real reason for his fall and tried to prevent that dark future from happening. Ben Solo/Kylo Ren from the Sequels was based on Jacen Solo. Unlike Kylo Ren, Darth Caedus had a far superior storyline. After embracing the Darkside, Jacen would kill Mara Jade, the wife of Luke Skywalker and mother of his cousin Ben Skywalker. Luke believed that Lumiya was to blame for killing his wife and did to her what Mace Windu did to Jango Fett in Ep2: Attack Of The Clones.

“Luke suffered many losses over the years, but the greatest was surely the death of his wife, a death with grievances unmatched since Anakin Solo’s heroic self-sacrifice. Believing Lumiya to be responsible, Luke, purging himself from everything what made him a Jedi Master, leaving only a man filled with rage and bitterness, fought the Sith Lady, decapitating her in cold blood in one heated final duel on the marshy world of Terephon.”

Jacen Solo would ultimately be taken down by his twin sister Jaina Solo.

Star Wars Legends: Fate Of The Jedi

The Galaxy faces a threat that has been contained for tens of thousands of year, Abeloth the Chaos Bringer who was kept contained by the Mortis Gods until their deaths in Season 3 of The Clone Wars. Abeloth is opposed by Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Order and the Lost Tribe of Sith. Luke faces Abeloth for a final confrontation in the Realm Beyond Shadow and receives unexpected aid from the mysterious Darth Krayt, with Abeloth falling into Eternity itself. Luke feared that Abeloth would return long after his death and sought out the Mortis Dagger, the only thing capable of kilingl her, as it was used to kill her adopted family, the Mortis Gods.

Star Wars Legends: Legacy

“The story of Star Wars: Legacy starts 126 years after the film Return of the Jedi. The comics feature Cade Skywalker, a descendant of Luke Skywalker, who was trained as a Jedi, but abandoned the New Jedi Order following its defeat by the One Sith. He apprenticed himself to the pirate Rav and lives among bounty hunters, smugglers and pirates such as his best friends Jariah Syn and Deliah Blue. Cade, in an attempt to avoid detection and his destiny, also dropped his last name and Jedi heritage while being reluctantly guided by Luke, now a Force ghost. The series begins with an attack on the Jedi Temple and the overthrow of the Galactic Alliance and the Fel Empire by the Sith. Along with Cade and his friends, various other characters appear who are set against the Sith; including deposed Emperor Roan Fel and his Imperial faction, the remnants of the Galactic Alliance under Admiral Gar Stazi, and the remaining Jedi. After a large and costly war with the Sith Empire, Cade manages to kill the evil Sith Emperor, Darth Krayt. However, even without their leader, the Sith remain a powerful danger.”

Disney could’ve properly adapted any of these iconic story lines but chose not to by playing it really safe by rehashing elements from the previous movies envisioned by Lucas. Not to mention that a lot of stories in the EU/Legends Continuity are not really suitable for kids and are targeted more for older fans.

Instead Disney has made their own vastly inferior versions of classic EU stories like Rise of Skywalker being a bad rip-off Dark Empire storyline and the rest of the Sequels about Ben Solo going to the Darkside, which is what Jacen Solo did in the Legacy of the Force novel series in which he became Darth Caedus.

An online movement has long been pushing Disney to resurrect and continue the Expanded Universe so that both it and the Disney version can exist side by side. Source: (https://www.change.org/p/disney-bring-back-the-star-wars-expanded-universe-also-known-as-legends)

Disney, Kennedy and Directors Johnson and Abrams, failed to give the audience a compelling, coherent and logical story and only made really bad decisions that affected the quality of the Sequels. These movies were so bad they make a lot of people wish that George Lucas never sold his franchise after they questioned his decisions in the Prequels such as politics and midi-chlorians. If you watch the Prequels along with Genndy Tartakovsky‘s Clone Wars Micro Series, Dave Filoni’s The Clone Wars and the Original Trilogy as well as reading the tie-in comics and books and compare them to the Sequels it’s jarring to see how bad the Sequels are.
Dave Filoni tried to make the Sequels better with the animated show Star Wars: Resistance, however the show only lasted two seasons. Source: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars_Resistance

Even though I mostly dislike Disney Star Wars, a few things I like about it are video games Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor and the Rogue One stand alone movie.

Volume One art, featuring (counter clockwise from middle): heroes Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace Windu; and villains Asajj Ventress, Durge, and Count Dooku.

However there are people who have issues with Dave Filoni’s TCW as it retconned stuff from pre-established Expanded Universe/Legends Republic comics and the Prequel movies and creating a number of continuity errors within the Clone Wars Era of the EU, such as giving Anakin Skywalker a Jedi apprentice as well as the portrayal of some characters like the aforementioned Anakin Skywalker. From day one Dave Filoni has been criticised by some fans for not being a loyal apprentice to George Lucas, while others have criticised Filoni for later projects he’s worked on, those being Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Bad Batch.

“…He first came onto the scene in 2006 after being hand-picked by Lucas himself to produce the Clone Wars animated movie. This was back in the “good old days” when George was in charge. Before the dark times, before Disney.” Source: (thatparkplace.com)

“Filoni would, under Lucas’s watchful eye, follow-up with the very successful Clone Wars CG tv series, which ran for 7 seasons and was so well-received that some felt it “saved” the Prequels by fleshing out crucial backstory and character development that the films themselves had skipped. What’s more, Clone Wars was the vehicle through which Dave was able to insert his own handmade characters into the Star Wars lore, not least of which was Ahsoka Tano – the heretofore unheard of Jedi apprentice to Anakin Skywalker himself. After Clone Wars wound down and Lucas rode off into the sunset on a horse made of money and Disney stock, Filoni would persevere at the new Disney Lucasfilm under President Kathleen Kennedy and go on to helm the Star Wars: Rebels cartoon series, which featured a slew of new characters he created such as Sabine, Hera, Ezra and Kanan. It met with moderate success, running for 4 seasons until it concluded in 2018.” Source: (thatparkplace.com)

“With Rebels concluded, Filoni was once again tapped for a new show called Star Wars: Resistance. Ostensibly, it was to “fix” the Sequel trilogy in the same way Clone Wars did for the Prequels, but it didn’t go so well and was cancelled after only 2 seasons. Some blamed the forgettable characters, others the poor CGI. Still others felt that the Sequels were so universally disliked that no amount of lipstick could be applied to that particular pig (creatives of the new Rey movie, take note…). Filoni then seemingly went back to his roots by working on the Clone-themed “Bad Batch” and “Tales of the Jedi” shows (featuring Ahsoka…again)” Source: (thatparkplace.com)

After the nonsensical Sequels and the rather forgettable Solo: A Star Wars Story, John Favreau tried to save Disney Star Wars with The Mandalorian and Book Of Boba Fett but Mandalorian Season 3 and Boba Fett Season 1 came undone by Kennedy and Filoni’s interference. The Obi-Wan Kenobi show failed, which only further enraged long time fans, as people like me were hoping to see Obi-Wan fight A’Sharad Hett long before he became the incredibly powerful Darth Krayt in the EU/Legends continuity. Andor which served as a spin-off & prequel to the standalone Rogue One movie and Ahsoka weren’t enough to win back audiences either and Disney lost subscribers on their platform and viewership ratings dropped.

There have also been talks about Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Rian “Ruin” Johnson, Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins doing their own Star Wars projects but no progress has ever been made and most likely never will. Taika Waititi says he’s going to take his time with his Star Wars movie, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, after he proved he’s a one trick pony after Thor Love & Thunder couldn’t live up to Thor Ragnarok, as it failed to surpass Ragnarok’s box office earnings. Taika also didn’t know that Natalie Portman played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader‘s wife Padme Amidala in the Prequels.

Disney has also had many controversies surrounding Lucas’ Franchise such as Gina Carano being fired from Mandalorian, Disney not paying royalties to Alan Dean Foster who wrote iconic Star Wars stories Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker and The Approaching Storm, not a good track record of keeping continuity consistent, debunking all the online Star Wars Fan Theories and rejecting George Lucas’ original ideas for the sequel trilogy (see videos below)…

…and scrapping so many great Expanded Universe projects such as:

SWORD OF THE JEDI BOOK TRILOGY

“The storyline was to have taken place sometime after the conclusion of the Fate of the Jedi series and would have focused on Jedi Master Jaina Solo Fel and her husband Jagged Fel. The series would have also featured Tahiri Veila, Ben Skywalker, and Allana Solo. The Sword of the Jedi series was canceled indefinitely due to the announcement from Disney Publishing Worldwide and Random House about the relaunch of the Star Wars adult novel continuity.”

BATTLE OF THE SITH LORDS/MAUL VIDEO GAME

“…during a meeting with representatives of Red Fly, George Lucas revealed his interest in Darth Maul working with Darth Talon, a concept that would carry over to Lucas’ first drafts of the sequel trilogy. When Lucas was told that this would not work since Talon lived more than 170 years after Maul, he said the main character could instead be a descendant or clone of Maul.”

“The player would have taken on the role of an unidentified bounty hunter, who would soon be killed by a mysterious figure, subsequently revealed to be Boba Fett. The player would then take control of Boba Fett for the duration of the game, finding themselves navigating Coruscant’s underworld metropolis of Level 1313. Various “exotic” weapons would have been utilized as the player uncovered a criminal conspiracy.”

Before Disney started making Star Wars shows, George Lucas had plans to make one of his own back in the early 2000s that would take place in Coruscant’s Criminal Underworld, only problem was Lucas didn’t have enough money.

Every time Disney and Kathleen Kennedy do stupid stuff that damages the Star Wars brand even more, they receive harsh criticism from so many people online and Disney and the media have the audacity to call them “toxic” fans, despite the fact it’s all their (Disney & Lucasfilm’s) fault to begin with for not giving fans what they want and not respecting the franchise. If Disney can’t handle a bit criticism, then they should sell Star Wars back to Lucas.

South Park has even blasted the Disney Company, Disney CEO Bob Iger and especially Kathleen Kennedy for their utter incompetence in the episode special titled Panderverse. Source:(https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park:_Joining_the_Panderverse)

The trailer for Star Wars Acolyte has already been destroyed online by an overwhelming amount of people who have given it a number of dislikes (Screenshot Below).

The only things Disney hasn’t ruined at this point are the Old Republic Era games KOTOR 1 & 2 and SWTOR MMORPG. A remake of the first KOTOR Game was announced back in 2021 but was reported to be delayed indefinitely in 2022 and as of 2023 the developers insist the game will be released. Truth is that no one wants a remake of one of the best Star Wars and one of the best video games ever made as the remake would most likely have changes made to the story and characters that made the original so beloved.

I have seen people online, particularly in the comments section of videos have asked why Disney doesn’t do movies based on the SWTOR Trailers (below).

At the end of the day no one wants Disney to adapt the classic EU/Legends stories and characters into live action because they will butcher the stories and characters and what made them so beloved by fans in the first place. Disney has already ruined the Skywalker Saga by introducing a bunch of nobody characters as well as disrespecting the legacy characters and ignoring all the world building established by Lucas and scrapping the EU.

I have seen Star Wars videos on YouTube made by Star Wars Fans, that are light years better than all of Disney Star Wars (Click on link below) to one of my other blogs to watch fan made Star Wars videos.

https://anamorphic695745520.wordpress.com/2023/08/10/star-wars-fans-vs-disney-which-side-will-u-choose/

Disney had one job and they couldn’t even do that, and we’ll never get to see Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3PO together on screen again. Disney doesn’t even take massive risks like the Expanded Universe did because they want to make everything “family friendly”. The way Disney has handled Lucas’ universally beloved franchise, is as tragic as Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader, but whereas Vader redeemed himself by saving his son Luke from Palpatine/Sidious, Disney and everyone associated with them have proven time and time again that they are beyond redemption.
